Latest News.... New Jazz 2008 Spring Syllabus Doc PDF Valley View High School Jazz Ensembles 2007 Rehearsals: see vvhsimp calendar: Calendar Attendance: Attendance to rehearsals is not an option. My policy is very simple: when we have rehearsals show up and show up on time and prepared. On time means in your chair set up ready to go. In order to miss a rehearsal you must submit a request in writing from your parents four weeks in advance. You must submit this to me and Mr. Gaylord. Any unexcused absences will cause your grade to suffer. If you are ill on the day of a rehearsal, let us know. We don't want your health to suffer; we just want to be informed. I hope that makes sense. Class Enrollment: Jazz l members must be enrolled in 7th period Jazz Ensemble. Jazz ll members must be enrolled in 0 period Jazz Ensemble Performances: Performances are mandatory... Period. If there is something that can not be helped, I need it in writing at least 4 weeks ahead of time. Once again Mr. Gaylord and I need to be informed. Unexcused absences will affect your grade. Financial Obligations: Make sure you are aware of what your obligations are (fees etc) and commit to them. If you have any questions, talk to someone, (myself, Mr. Gaylord, a booster parent) someone will always be glad to help. Practice: You are a part of one of the top jazz programs in Southern California, you have to practice. I understand that everyone is busy (me included) but if you are organized you will find the time. Practicing includes, listening to jazz, rehearsing rough spots in charts, improvising, refining your own skills. Come prepared! Communication: If you have a real problem with attending a rehearsal, or a financial commitment to the band, talk to us. Just remember almost anything can be solved if we have enough time and information. Don't just think the problem will fix itself. This program is here to help you, BUT WE CAN'T HELP IF WE DON'T KNOW THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG! I think you will agree that last sentence pretty much sums it up.
